You can make your child's second visit with us enjoyable and positive. Tell your child in advance that someone will look at their teeth and clean them. Try showing them pictures of the dentist, and have fun role-playing you are the dentist with them. One of our wonderful hygienists will clean the teeth, may even take radiographs and explain about good brushing habits. At this visit Dr. Neville will examine your Childs teeth for any signs of early decay and other problems.
Questions and Answers: Here are answers to some of parents' most frequently asked questions.
- Can antibiotics stain my Childs teeth?
Yes, some types of antibiotics can cause permanent discoloration of the teeth. Be sure to discuss this with your pediatrician when antibiotics are prescribed.
- Does mouth breathing affect the formation of teeth?
Mouth breathing can be the result of an obstruction caused by enlarged tonsils or adenoid or from chronic nasal congestion. It can lead to dental abnormalities that may require professional correction such as braces. Mouth breathing can also affect sleep and studies have shown children who don't sleep regularly through the night tend to have hyper tendencies.
- What if my child has a tooth knocked out?
Do not scrub or cleanse the tooth. Immediately place it in milk or water. If these are not available, wrap the tooth in a clean, wet paper towel or cloth and bring it with you to the office as quickly as possible. Many times, the tooth can be reimplanted into the tooth socket, given this quick- thinking attention.
Lots of stickers and a couple of surprises end the fun visit.
